Children Involved with the Ministry - Results

Outcome Results

The ministry has internal systems to track and monitor outcomes associated with the delivery of child welfare services. These systems are part of MCFD's commitment to continuous quality improvement.

The table below highlights some of the ministry's results. Although the project was implemented in 2003, data back to 2001 has been provided.

Measure (as at Mar 31 unless otherwise noted)
% of Aboriginal children in care served by Delegated Agencies.
% of children in permanent care with long-term plan to remain in foster care to age 19 (rather than a permanent plan for adoption, placement with relatives etc.) 1
% of Aboriginal children in MCFD care placed with Aboriginal caregivers. 2
% of Children in care who age out and immediately apply for income assistance (IA) 3,4
Rate of recidivism among families in the child welfare system. (all) 5
Rate of recidivism among Aboriginal families in the child welfare system.
  1. Includes MCFD and delegated agency cases
  2. Only MCFD children on RAP included
  3. Includes those children on IA within 6 months of aging out. Calculated using total number over the fiscal year.
  4. Data not available for 2006/07 fiscal, as it requires looking 6 months forward from discharge date
  5. Calculated by looking at whether or not families with a closed investigation in a fiscal year (or 12 month period) had a subsequent investigation in the next fiscal year (or 12 month period).

*2006/07 as of the end of November 2006.
