Aboriginal Youth Work Xchange Program
The Ministry of Children and Family Development is piloting an exchange program for Aboriginal youth going into grades 11 or 12 in September 2008. The program will run for two weeks in July 2008. The two week period will be a paid work experience. The program will offer Aboriginal youth from around the province an opportunity to work in the ministry and to learn about career options in the social services field. As part of the learning opportunity, students will create a cultural exchange experience for their Xchange partner. Exchange possibilities include introducing their partner to Chiefs, Council Members, Elders, or other Aboriginal community members, sharing traditional language, dance, art, or other cultural demonstration, sharing traditional foods, story telling, and explanation of traditional territory. For additional ideas on Xchange cultural events click here. Please see the How To Apply page for an application form and further details.
