  Youth Advisory Council

yac poster imageThe Ministry of Children and Family Development recently created the Youth Advisory Council, aimed at bringing together young people from across the province to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with the ministry. The goal is to work with youth to move past barriers and include them in the decision making process regarding transformation and seek their recommendations linking policy and program areas.

The Council was officially launched at the MCFD Provincial Reference Group meeting on February 8th, 2007. It is currently engaged with the provincial and regional transformation reference groups, including local reference group meetings, and is also working towards collaboration with the Elder’s Advisory Council. YAC is actively engaged in transformation team projects including “What’s Working for Children in B.C.” and the “Friend of the Child” project. The Youth Advisory Council will produce its 07/08 strategic plan in April 2007.

MCFD is committed to improving services to children and youth and supporting them in becoming engaged in government. Through the council, the ministry will identify issues facing young people, particularly Aboriginal youth, become informed on what types of decisions they make and what their needs are in order to build healthy, sustainable communities. For more information see the MCFD 2006/07 – 08/09 Service Plan.
