Review of the MCFD Accreditation Program

In 2010/11 the Ministry of Children and Family Development initiated a review of its accreditation program, which has been in place since 1999. The purpose of the review was to help the ministry, key partners and stakeholders determine how to maximize the investment in accreditation and better align accreditation with other quality assurance processes.

The review was conducted by a team that included managers, analysts and economists from the Ministry of Children and Family Development, and an analyst from the Ministry of Social Development, which co-sponsored the review.

A steering committee, consisting of directors from the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Ministry of Social Development and Community Living British Columbia, as well as directors and executive directors of several agencies and representatives from two accreditation organizations, provided the accreditation review team with guidance and strategic advice and participated in reviewing the findings and formulating the recommendations.

The initial findings of the review were also presented at the Federation of Community Social Services of BC and the BC CEO Network annual general meetings in June 2011. Feedback from the participants at these events was considered and incorporated in the report to the extent possible.

The report, which was finalized in September 2011, was presented to the project sponsors and reviewed by the ministry’s Executive Committee, and work is currently underway to address the recommendations.
