COA Accreditation
Intensive Accreditation Training (IAT)
This two day comprehensive course is designed for staff and managers of organizations new to the COA accreditation process. The workshop provides an introduction to COA’s mission, values, and history; an overview of the accreditation/reaccreditation process and the 8th Edition Standards; and develops the organizational skills necessary to achieve accreditation.
NOTE: Do not attend INTRO if you register for this training.
Introduction to the 8th Edition (INTRO)
This one-day intensive workshop is designed for staff and managers of organizations new to the COA accreditation process. INTRO includes a comprehensive overview of the 8th Edition Standards; an explanation of how to utilize the supporting documents, including tools, charts, forms, and questionnaires; and a crash course in assembling the self-study report and site visit preparation.
Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI)
This two-day course is designed for staff members that implement, monitor, and/or participate in the ongoing development and implementation of the organization's quality improvement plan. PQI offers a comprehensive explanation of PQI, RMP, Administrative and Service Delivery standards and how they are integrated in the quality improvement process. It also introduces creative ideas and tools to assist in the implementation of a successful PQI process, and emphasizes the qualities needed to provide organizational leadership.
CARF Accreditation
If you choose CARF as your accrediting body, you need to know what CARF division your programs fall under. The divisions appropriate for MCFD-/CLBC- contracted services are:
- Behavioural Health [BH]: services that provide counseling/psychotherapy services (e.g., counseling for children who have experienced abuse, family therapy)
- Employment and Community Services [ECS]: supportive services that are not of a counseling/psychotherapy nature (e.g., Community Living day programs, group homes, supported employment programs)
- Child and Youth Services [CYS]: services span the continuum from early childhood development through to safety and permanence and enhancement for community living. CYS to be used by agencies serving children, youth and their families exclusively.
- Medical Rehabilitation [MR]: outpatient medical rehabilitation programs such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and other medical support services (e.g., for children with special needs at some Child Development Centers)
- Note: CARF’s "Assisted Living" and "Day Programs" divisions cover seniors’ apartment complexes with support services and seniors’ day services; they do not cover our Community Living Services.
If there are any questions about which CARF standards best cover your services, please confirm this with CARF directly before you register for a training event.
CARF 101
This introductory one-day session is designed for staff and managers of organizations interested in pursuing their CARF accreditation. The workshop includes: a review of the standards; overview of the steps of accreditation; examination of the value of accreditation for the organization, consumers, and the public; and a discussion of tips for preparing for a successful survey with peers and expert trainers.
CARF 202
This one-day intensive workshop is designed for organizations that have achieved accreditation and wish to update and improve their practices in relation to the standards. The workshop updates participants on new standards in the most recent manual, focusing on the new programs, frequently cited standards, and changes made in the last year. Participants will also learn about Promising Practices that CARF has compiled from organizations identified through commendations in their survey reports.
CARF/CORI Advanced Outcomes Training
This hands-on, three-day training session will help you make sense of the related CARF accreditation standards by putting them into practice. You will work through the elements of the quality improvement cycle, including planning for outcomes measurement, collecting data, analyzing and sharing information, and “putting it all together” for better organizational performance. One full day of the workshop takes place in a computer lab where participants focus on implementing and monitoring your organization’s outcomes measurement plan using various methods, including the HOMES database system and Excel tools.
CQL Accreditation
CQL Accreditation training happens in a slightly different way. CQL provides group introductory sessions on occasion, but most of the training happens one-on-one with the organization visiting the agency. You will receive more information on your scheduled trainings when you are contracted through CQL.
