Adrian

Birth date: February 2005
Ethno-Cultural Background: First Nations

This social little fellow is looking for a family to entertain. He can be very charming and comical and could have your house full of laughter if you gave him a chance. Adrian loves to play with other children and is generally a very happy little guy. Adrian walks and is currently learning to run. He has mastered stairs and can now kick a ball. He has taken longer to develop these skills due to his Down Syndrome but he needs a family of his own to support him through many more stages of his development. He currently attends a day care program along with a one to one worker and loves every minute of it. He is learning some sign language and is increasing his vocabulary. He uses all his skills to communicate and is very capable of letting you know what his wishes are.

Adrian has tested at the upper end of the range for his adaptive and communication skills and is developing well in other areas. He is a popular playmate with his peers and he loves to act out songs and games. Playing with his peers and interacting with animals are two of Adrian’s favourite activities.

Adrian loves to ride his bike and it has proven to be an efficient method of transportation for him. He can be convinced to try new foods and activities through watching his peers participate. If the other kids are eating chunks of apple, Adrian will give it a try.

Adrian will need a family that is prepared to advocate for him within the health care system. He will need some help through his developmental stages and will need a family with lots of energy. He would do well in a family with older siblings. He also would do well in a family with pets.

Adrian has developed a strong attachment to his foster family and some degree of openness should be considered. His birth family will also need to be considered for some form of contact as Adrian gets older. Both aboriginal and non aboriginal families will be considered but Adrian will need a cultural plan as part of his placement.
