Angelo

Birth date: December 1999
Ethno-Cultural Background: West Asian

Easygoing, cuddly and sensitive are words that describe Angelo. Angelo's favourite things about life are music and dancing. Being in a wheelchair does not limit his enjoyment of either, as he makes swinging movements to dance and excels in music therapy. He is a happy and playful boy who always smiles at the children he knows, and says hello to adults and children he likes by using sign language for "happy". Angelo is well liked by all his classmates, and they know he likes them as he gazes into their eyes. He truly enjoys being with the people he knows.

Angelo has an intellectual disability, chromosome deletion and a global developmental delay and in all aspects of his life; he functions at the level of an infant. If Angelo is feeling unwell he can experience pain and discomfort for extended periods of time. Love, caring, comfort and attention are required to minimize this for Angelo. Angelo is hearing and vision impaired and experiences gastro-intestinal problems.

Physically, Angelo has accomplished great things: he is hypermobile, sits on the floor, pulls himself into a standing position, and can make a few steps if he uses his walker. His favourite physical activity is swimming. As well, he is currently learning basic sign language. He attends school half days. Of course, his favourite things about school are his peers and music and movement time. He also enjoys looking at storybooks, swinging and rocking.

Angelo needs a committed and dedicated family that is accepting of his special placement needs. A family who is committed to daily therapies, access to services and advocacy skills would benefit this young boy. In addition, Angelo needs a forever family that is supportive of various levels of openness with his birth family and current caregivers.
