Bart

Birth date: May 1997
Ethno-Cultural Background: Indo Canadian

This young man would be a wonderful part of any family! He describes himself as “cute” and “funny”, but others see him as warm, charismatic, clever and charming. As for “funny”, his sense of humour is deemed as “hilarious”!

Bart is a resilient and courageous child. Born with Spina Bifida, he has overcome many challenges in his young life. He loves to play wheelchair basketball and participate in PE class in school. He is a well liked participant in a youth group and thoroughly enjoys activities and outings with them. He is also very involved with the community.

Bart attends Grade 7 in school where he is functioning only slightly below his grade level. He communicates well but receives some educational assistance to help with comprehension skills. Because he spends so much time with adults, he does not have a lot of friends at school. However, he is well liked by the people in his world and builds strong connections with them.

This young man requires some extra physical care and needs parents willing to learn about shunts, catheters and G-tube feeding. However, he functions well on a daily basis and is becoming more independent with his personal care. His adoptive family will need to work with doctors to ensure Bart’s continued good health as complications can arise quickly because of his condition.

Sadly, Bart’s former adoptive parent passed away two years ago and Bart had to come back into foster care. He would like to keep in touch with his current foster family and siblings but says that he would like a forever family, where he could stay and belong. Could you be that family?
