Let me introduce you to Brigit. In her own words she is a girl who “is tall but not too tall and can do a one-handed cartwheel.” She also describes herself as pretty and “full with energy.” What a winning combination!
Brigit is currently in a modified grade 5 program due to a cognitive delay. She loves swimming, running and gymnastics and is very interested in cheerleading, riding and skating as well. She loves to draw and also to help with younger children. She relates better to younger children than those her own age and generally gets along well with adults.
Brigit has so many things going for her but she does require some extra help in some areas. She needs some help mastering social skills and she does require assistance academically.
Brigit is petit and acts younger than her age. Most of the time she is affectionate, charming and cheerful but she has been known to have the occasional temper tantrum. At times she needs a reminder to speak in her 11-year-old voice rather than her baby voice but is generally well behaved and positive.
Can you imagine this lovely young girl practicing her cartwheels in your yard? If you can and if you are prepared for some level of openness with her biological mother, sister, maternal grandparents and foster parents, this may be the child for you. Brigit says that she wants a family that is “permanent and I don’t think I’ll be able to get out of.” We are hoping to help her find one she won’t want to get out of!
