Cara is a happy girl with a great smile. She has dark hair, brown eyes, a sunny personality and loves being around people. Cara is in excellent general health and eats well.
Cara has developmental delays due to alcohol exposure during pregnancy and is mostly nonverbal. At school she has the help of a full time special education assistant and a speech therapist. The emphasis of her education plan is on communication skills. Cara has a great will to communicate and is learning Pic symbols, a communications method which involves placing various pictures in order to make into whole sentences. At home she uses the same pictures, which have been collected in a book. As well, Cara has about 20 clear words and uses a combination of signing and body language to express herself. She attends music therapy once a week.
Cara is very tidy and loves keeping herself and her environment neat.
She has recently learned to make her own bed and loves to be helpful. She gets along well with pets and animals in her foster home and likes playing with her dolls. Cara is very good at puzzles and likes beads. She also loves swimming.
Cara thrives on routine and enjoys lots of care and attention. She needs a loving family who can provide a nurturing home, consistent parenting and structure. Her adoptive family should be aware that she will continue to need support throughout her adult life.
