Chad
Birth date: February 1991
Ethno-Cultural Background: Aboriginal
Charming, funny and an all around Good Guy is how this young man sees himself – and there is no doubt that this description fits! Despite the difficulties he has experienced, Chad is an inspiration to many young people. He is a valued speaker at events concerning Youth in Care, participates as a volunteer in many activities, and has recently won an award celebrating his leadership abilities. Upbeat, charismatic, and witty, Chad gets on well with his peers and the adults in his life.
In spite of his many accomplishments, Chad would dearly love to have a permanent home where he would ‘never have to move again’ and where he could be a part of a caring family which can help him with aspects of his life that he still finds difficult. Chad was prenatally exposed to alcohol and drugs, resulting in delays in some areas of his development. He is attending school in Grade 11 /12, with some classes at the same level as his peers and some in which he receives special programming. He enjoys subjects such as science, math and (especially) music.
This social and outgoing teen would fit well in an adoptive home with two parents, or perhaps a single male parent. With this young man as part of the family, Chad’s adoptive home would be full of music. He likes listening to music and has talent in playing piano and writing his own rap songs. He also likes to keep physically active by playing basketball. He would do well with parents who are musical, energetic and supportive. His adoptive parents should also enjoy listening and encouraging Chad with his verbal skills. Chad loves to talk! He is learning to take time and not overstep in conversation and has made great improvements in his listening skills.
Chad’s adoptive family should be prepared for a degree of openness with some members of his birth family. An Aboriginal family, or a family who will encourage Chad to keep ties with his Aboriginal culture, would be preferred.
