Connor

Birth date: December, 2007

Ethno-Cultural Background: Aboriginal (Homalco)

Trucks, hats and cuddles are three of Connor’s favourite things. Life for this little boy has lots of good things. He loves cake, blackberry pie and being by the ocean, and he would play happily outside all day if allowed to.

There are many positives for Connor, however he needs a family that is knowledgeable about the potential effects of prenatal alcohol and drug exposure. Despite his penchant for cake, he is small, delicate child and is delayed in most areas of his development. Connor will “talk all day” but his speech is still hard to understand. He is getting better at communicating about the things he wants. He can become easily over stimulated and reacts to this, and to frustration, by screaming loudly and sometimes biting or scratching other children. Medications have helped to reduce some of his anxieties, but he still does better in a calm environment where his needs are understood.

Connor is capable of developing strong attachments to other people. He loves hanging out with his foster father and helping him with various activities round the house. He also enjoys camping and is beginning to be able to tolerate short shopping trips better. Some supervision is needed as he is friendly will sometimes approach strangers without having any sense of potential danger.

This energetic and playful little guy needs a forever home where he will be the youngest in the family. He loves animals and will do well with pets. His adoptive parents should be prepared to help him through some developmental challenges, but the rewards will be great. Because of his ethno-cultural background, an Aboriginal family, or a family that can help Connor keep in touch with his cultural heritage, would be preferred. Connor adoptive parents should be willing to consider openness with his former foster family and two older siblings who were adopted.
