Let me tell you about four brown eyed beautiful little children that really want a home of their own. With this sibling group of 4, you had better be prepared to celebrate birthdays often and with gusto.
Deidre is the oldest and she is ‘dying to be adopted’. She loves to read to her younger siblings and play school, as long as she gets to be the teacher. She also loves to play house and go camping. Deidre is described as sociable, spirited and imaginative. She definitely has some challenges that her new family will need to explore but her love of life and the outdoors will provide balance to her difficulties with school. When asked, Deidre will tell you that her abilities to be a friend and an older sister are great strengths of hers.
Next in line is Randall. He is currently in grade one and is an active little guy who loves both the trampoline and camping. Randall is a quiet boy until you get to know him but once you make a connection he finds it much easier. Although Randall loves to hang around with his brother and sisters, he also likes time on his own. He is very happy to play on the computer or create works of art with string and paper. Randall struggles with some aspects of school, works on a modified program with full time support and has an IEP. His new family will need to educate themselves around some of the specific concerns and supports in place to help Randall succeed.
Tasha is a bubbly four year old who loves toys, swimming and drawing. She answers to the nick name ‘MOJO’ when she isn’t too busy with her friends at day care. If her older siblings are going camping, she is right behind them, trying desperately to keep up and be one of the ‘big girls’. She loves to play with her friends and likes to be a part of anything that is going on. Tasha needs some help to figure out how to get what she wants without tantrums. She has responded really well to speech therapy and is having a much easier time communicating this year.
The baby of the family is Hunter and he is not yet 3. Hunter’s status is registered and his band will need to be involved in the planning for permanence. There is a possibility that a separate plan may be explored for Hunter to ensure his band’s involvement but at this point, the plan is to place the children as a group. Hunter is an animated, curious little guy who charms those around him. He is a well behaved little guy who loves to play with his siblings. He loves trucks, lego and his own special blanket. Hunter is just learning to talk so needs lots of encouragement in this area.
There is a possibility that all 4 of these children were exposed to alcohol and/or drugs prior to their birth. Their family will need to be prepared for a wide range of possible consequences.
An active family with an interest in the outdoors would be a good fit for this sibling group. Some openness will need to be explored to facilitate some contact between these children and their other siblings and previous foster parents.
