Denny
Birth Date: March 2002
Ethno-Cultural Background: First Nations (Mik’maq Community)
If you would like some fun in your family, you might wish to meet Denny! This irresistible little guy enjoys life, especially if he can be outside fishing, camping, hiking, biking or kayaking. He even loves school, which he sees as a “fun place to be” and where he is well liked by his peers and teachers.
Denny’s foster mom describes him as a “joy to parent” and hopes to maintain a lasting connection with him. A generally cheerful and affectionate child, Denny is usually happiest when he is outside. He loves to learn about trees and his environment.
Denny had a difficult start in life. He has possibly been affected by prenatal alcohol exposure. He is working with a therapist who is helping him to resolve mixed feelings about his birth family and to prepare him for adoption. At school, Denny requires extra assistance in all academic subjects but does not have individualized support. He is on track in his physical development and rarely demonstrates any behavioural challenges. He is described at home and at school as an affectionate, sensitive and delightful child with a touch of mischievousness typical of a boy his age.
Are you an active, “outdoorsy” family looking for a young companion on your hikes and kayak trips? Do you have the patience and ability to parent a child who is academically challenged? Can you provide this captivating little boy with the reassurance he needs of your lifelong commitment to him? If so Denny could be a wonderful part of your family.
Denny would like continued openness with some members of his birth family and his former foster parents. A First Nations family who can help him to maintain ties with his cultural community would be preferred.
