This little guy has a smile that lights up an entire room. Dimitri is an active, beautiful little boy who loves to run and jump. It is not difficult to find things that Dimitri likes to do but being outside is definitely high on his list. He loves the playground, the swings and running in the park. Dimitri also loves water whether he is bathing in it, swimming in it, in a boat on the water or just play at the water table.
Dimitri is very social. He has graduated from side by side play to more interactive play with his peers. Dimitri currently attends a specialized preschool for children with autism and is doing very well. He qualifies for funding for intervention services to assist with his communication and social development.
Dimitri loves the cat in his current foster home and talks to him regularly. Although Dimitri has been described as nonverbal, he can be heard singing his ABCs and Old MacDonald when playing by himself.
Dimitri is learning many new skills. He can brush his own teeth and get himself into his own car seat. He is working on dressing himself and toilet training. He obviously has developed many essential skills but could use some coaching from his family to continue his development.
Dimitri needs a family that is prepared to work with professionals to help him reach his potential. The family will need to educate themselves around Autism Spectrum Disorder. The family will need to be strong, patient and very loving. They will need to be able to create an environment with structure, routine and consistency for Dimitri to do his best. Some form of openness will need to be explored between with his birth family and his forever family.
