Dougie

Birth date: September 2004
Ethno-Cultural Background: First Nations

Are you an energetic family, ready to share your lives with this busy, charming and affectionate little boy? Dougie assures us that he is a “Big Boy” and is described by others as a cheerful, curious and sociable child. This little guy has a passion for cars, trucks and anything with wheels. His imaginative skills are developing and he can focus for long periods when playing at making roads or loading and unloading toy dumpsters. He loves to climb on playground equipment, kick a ball, ride his tricycle and play active games like ‘chase me’ and ‘hide and seek’.

Dougie attends half-day kindergarten with an assistant to help him to focus. He has good gross motor skills but needs help developing fine motor skills and finds it hard to sit still for activities such as art work or story time without assistance. He can interact well with his peers and be polite to adults. He is described as playful and resourceful, but he is a strong willed little boy and can need redirection to prevent persistence escalating to tantrums if he is not getting what he wants.

Dougie is hoping for a family of his own which has the energy and skills to help him reach his full potential. A First Nations family, or a family who can help Dougie keep ties with his Aboriginal culture, would be preferred. His adoptive parents should have some knowledge of the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol. Dougie responds well to one to one attention, but will also do well with one or two other children as his siblings. He would benefit from being able to keep in touch with his foster parent and some of his birth-siblings who are also in foster care.
