Dougie
Birth date: September 2004
Ethno-Cultural Background: First Nations
Are you an energetic family, ready to share your lives with this busy, charming and affectionate boy? Dougie is a cheerful, curious and sociable child. He has a passion for cars, trucks, and anything with wheels. He likes playing computer games that involve movement and cars. His imaginative skills are developing and he can focus for long periods when playing at making roads or loading and unloading toy dumpsters. He loves to climb on playground equipment, kick a ball, ride his bicycle and scooter and is willing to try new activities. He enjoys exploring the outdoors and learning about animals and nature.
Dougie attends elementary school in a regular class. He is on an adapted program. He is receiving some Learning Assistance help everyday for printing and reading readiness skill development. He works well in a small group setting and has a positive attitude toward learning. He is liked by his peers and does well in a structured setting. He has good gross motor skills but needs help developing fine motor skills.
He is playful and resourceful, but he is a strong willed boy and sometimes needs redirection to prevent persistence escalating to tantrums if he is not getting what he wants.
Dougie is hoping for a family of his own who has the energy and skills to help him reach his full potential. A First Nations family, or a family who can help Dougie keep ties with his Aboriginal culture, would be preferred. His adoptive parents should have some knowledge of the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol. Dougie responds well to one to one attention, but will also do well with one or two other children as his siblings. He would benefit from being able to keep in touch with his foster parent and some of his birth-siblings who are also in foster care.
