Jaclyn

Birth Date: December 2005
Ethno-Cultural Background: Caucasian

What a sweetheart! This wonderful baby is very engaging, cuddly and smiley; she is a delight to parent. Jaclyn has an easy-going personality and is responsive to play activities. She only cries when she is hungry, sleepy, or in need of a diaper change.

Jaclyn was born prematurely at approximately 32 weeks gestation and tested positive for cocaine. She remained in hospital for the first three months of her life due to medical issues. She has Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL), a diagnosis most common with premature infants. It will be some time before the impact of this diagnosis on Jaclyn’s development can be determined. Some children with PVL exhibit fairly mild symptoms while others have significant disabilities which may include cerebral palsy. Jaclyn will undergo periodic assessments for PVL at Children’s Hospital. Meanwhile, she will continue to be monitored by the Infant Development Program. She is showing significant developmental delays.

If you have the capacity to accept whatever the future may bring for this little one, you may be the adoptive family for whom Jaclyn awaits. The next couple of years will reveal much about this child’s strengths and challenges. In the meantime, she needs a family to love, care for her, and celebrate the wonderful wee person that she is today.
