Jimmie
Birth date: June 2003
Ethno-Cultural Background: Caucasian
Jimmy is a child who almost always has a smile on his face. “Easy-going”, “happy”, “eager to help” and “affectionate” are words often used to describe him. His sunny and gentle nature endears him to everyone who he meets. Building things, doing puzzles and playing with toy trucks can keep this little guy cheerfully occupied. Although not involved in any formal sports, he loves being outside and enjoys horseback riding, splashing about in water or swimming. In general he is a sociable, calm and likeable little boy with an unusual degree of patience for one his age.
Jimmy is currently in Grade 2 in school. He has what is described as a ‘moderate intellectual disability’ and requires extra support in school. He currently tests with an IQ of 53 and will probably always need extra help academically and in other areas of his life. However, he is an eager learner and loves working with letters and numbers. He gets on well with other children, although he has difficulty understanding the games that his peers are interested in and is more comfortable in the company of girls or younger children. Jimmie does well when he can stick to the activity of his choice but needs a little help transitioning to a new activity. He has difficulty sleeping at night and gets up frequently to cope with his restlessness.
This endearing little boy needs adoptive parents who are prepared to provide the supports that he needs through childhood and into adulthood, parents who can encourage and celebrate his achievements whether large or small. Jimmie would do well with other children but needs a calm home with some structure and routine. His future family should be prepared to consider limited openness with some members of his birth family.
