This affectionate, energetic little guy is looking for parents who really want to spend time with him. He enjoys being busy and loves going to the park or the pool, riding his bike and playing soccer or baseball, but most of all he responds to the one to one adult attention that he has lacked in the past.
When he gets to know you, Karl is a talkative, expressive and playful child. A typical boy, he loves being Spiderman and playing with Lego blocks and Hot Wheels cars.
His school counsellor describes him as bright and astute and others have found him to be very likable, respectful and helpful. In spite of a number of moves and stresses in his life he has continued to do well in school. So far, he has related well to his peers and is developmentally on track. He has recently begun attending Grade 3.
Karl may have been prenatally exposed to alcohol and drugs and has been referred for assessment. When he is feeling unhappy his behaviour can regress, but he responds well to redirection by adults. He is working with a therapist and his foster parents to learn more appropriate responses and to resolve trust and attachment issues stemming from his past experiences.
Karl would do well in a family in which he is the youngest child, which will enjoy sharing activities with him, and in which he will receive quality one to one attention from his forever parents. His adoptive family should be prepared for full openness with members of his birth family who have provided care to him in the past.
