Kate

Birth Date: March, 1997
Ethno-Cultural Background: Métis

Meet Kate, an engaging, independent, artistic girl who loves to paint and draw and spend time with her friends. She is actively involved with her church youth group and likes to camp in the summer and snow board in the winter. Kate would love to join a soccer team and plays volleyball with her school. PE is one of her favourite subjects and the other is Art --  she excels in both!

Besides art and gym, Kate enjoys the social aspect of school and has made great progress in learning how to interact well with her peers. She requires assistance in Math and would benefit from help in most subjects as she is several grades behind in some areas, but Kate does not want to be singled out by using the resource room so she struggles on in her fashion. Kate is strong willed and determined and gives the impression that she could accomplish anything she sets her mind to, as long as she gets to chose it! She can get into conflict with authority figures and has trouble backing down from a position. Kate has been deeply hurt by emotional and physical abuse in the past and has been let down by significant others in her life. Underneath the emotional wall she has built around herself, Kate is a girl who yearns to connect with others and wants very much to be adopted. She would love to have two parents, siblings and not have to move around anymore.  Kate sees herself as funny, big hearted, positive, and has an affection for little kids.  She is a lovely girl who has had many setbacks but due to her inner strength, is willing to take a chance on a permanent family to find the love and security she needs to continue to grow and thrive.

An active family who likes the great outdoors and is able to provide a calm and patient environment in the home would be a great fit for Kate. Familiarity with the process of grief and loss and knowing the supports needed to help Kate heal would be essential. Kate has some birth family members, friends and people from the aboriginal community she would need to keep in touch with. Come and meet Kate, this wonderful girl who has so much potential.
