Liam

Birth date: December 1996
Ethno-Cultural Background: European/North American

Liam has an infectious smile and a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. This clever, alert boy is helpful and energetic, with an enthusiastic enjoyment of the outdoors. Liam likes fishing, BMX biking, motor biking, and swimming. He enjoys participating in sports, including soccer, basketball, and volleyball. He is learning to skate so that he can play hockey in future. In contrast, he is an artistic child with a dramatic flair. He especially enjoys drawing and building projects. Liam loves listening to music and, in particular, would like to be able to play the violin.

Liam is a bright child who attends school in a full day program, with some modification at the lunch hour. His lack of school attendance prior to coming into care has impacted his education. Academically, he is functioning well below his grade level. Liam is outgoing and talkative, with an awareness of and curiosity about the world around him. Liam loves pets and is very good with them.

Liam did not have the opportunity to develop strong attachments and interpersonal skills in his family of origin and finds relationships with peers and adults challenging. He has anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has prescribed medications to assist him with managing his emotions and behaviours. Liam is working with a mental health counsellor to address his challenges.

Liam has many strengths, as well as challenges, and would benefit from the guidance, limits, and patience of adoptive parents with a good understanding of attachment issues. Liam will need the consistency, love, and stability of committed parent/s as he grows to trust his place in their family. Openness arrangements will not be a consideration in his adoption plan, as Liam does not have any ongoing contact with his family of origin.
