Olive

Birth Date: February, 2006

Ethno-Cultural Background: Caucasian

A smile that lights up the room and warms your heart – this is the first thing that you will notice about this beautiful little girl. Sweet natured and social, Olive charms and impresses those who get to know her.

Olive came into care shortly after birth.  She has a diagnosis of “incontinentio pigmenti”, a genetic disorder that has resulted in global developmental delays. She requires help with feeding and mobility and will likely continue to need extra support throughout her life as she strives to reach her full potential. At four years, Olive attends preschool where she enjoys socializing with the other children and being a part of their activities. She communicates through eye contact, smiles and vocalizations. With assistance, she uses the ”Big Mack”, a device which she can press a button to indicate “yes” or “no”.  She has been referred for assessment so that a more advanced communications device can be found for her.

This little girl recognizes familiar voices and greets friends with a big smile and “Hi”. She loves having people talk to her read to her and massage her. She likes to watch children’s programs on television and listen to music. Glasses help her to see and enjoy her world and, despite poor muscle tone, she can stand, using a standing frame, for a period of time. Olive gets around in her custom Kid Rock wheelchair. Although she will probably always need a wheelchair for mobility, this does not hold her back much!

Olive is a wonderful little flower that is just starting to bloom. She needs a forever family that is caring and loving, that is able to provide a safe and stimulating environment and that is willing to share her life journey as she grows into the best that she can be.
