We would like to tell you about five amazing siblings. While there is no doubt that taking on an instant family of five will be a challenge, these children each have special qualities and wonderful personalities. With this fabulous five, you will be celebrating birthdays all year – and will have lots to celebrate!
Eldest sibling, Shanna, is known for her gentle, easygoing nature. She is
generally well behaved and well liked by others but, like most of us, once
in a while things get on top of her and she has an “emotional meltdown”. She
needs time to process information and decide how to respond so does well in
the company of people who are patient and able to provide continual guidance.
Shanna’s creativity comes out in her love for doing crafts and puzzles. She
also enjoys listening to music and is taking guitar lessons. Physical activities
for Shanna include swimming, skating and gymnastics and she is developing
a particular interest in soccer. Shanna attends a private school. Because
she repeated kindergarten she is a grade lower than other children her age.
Her least favourite subject is French Language but she “really enjoys school
trips”.
Vern says that his favourite subject in school is “recess”. However, he also likes computer studies and playing the flute. He is quite athletic and is involved in physical activities such as swimming, skating and soccer. Vern is doing well in school and does not need any extra help academically. He has a calm, generally happy personality and a good sense of humour. He is popular with his peers and enjoys socializing with his friends, playing outside and inventing scenarios for his action figures and miniature army. Vern is usually well behaved but periodically suffers temper tantrums when frustrated. He is happiest in an environment that provides consistency and structure where he can receive help with self control and channelling his frustrations into productive activities.
Becky likes “recess” at school, too! This little girl is an affectionate,
caring and very likeable child. She has a creative streak and enjoys doing
crafts, inventing “let’s pretend” games and listening to music. Her sweet
nature endears her to other children and adults alike. She attends a private
school where she is functioning at her age level and has favourite subjects
(apart from recess) of physical education and French language. Like her older
siblings, she goes through occasional emotional outbursts and needs help developing
appropriate ways of coping with this.
There is one good word to describe Alina. Diva! This little girl loves to dance, organize other people for games and be the centre of attention. She knows that she is beautiful! She is vivacious, tireless and full of life. She is also a talented young artist whose artwork is much advanced for her years. Alina attends kindergarten on a full time basis and goes to daycare after school. She needs help with transitions from one setting or activity to another but gets on well with other children and most adults. Apart from dancing and drawing, she enjoys playing computer games, reading stories and physical activities such as soccer, skipping and riding her bike.
Busy, curious, imaginative and inquisitive, youngest sibling Eddie is in his element playing with his toy trains or speeding round on his tricycle. He enjoys the company of other children and gets on well in the daycare that he attends full time. He has a streak of shyness and it takes a while for him to warm to unfamiliar adults, but he can be a loving and cuddly child to those people he accepts into his life. Eddie was not strong as a baby but had caught up developmentally by his first birthday and is now in good general health. He periodically suffers from asthma and uses a ‘puffer’ to assist his breathing. This does not hold him back, however. He quickly leant to kick a ball and is now taking lessons in swimming and skating.
These appealing siblings have enormous potential. Although they suffered early experiences that left them emotionally damaged, they have shown amazing courage and resiliency and are developing into creative and lovable children. They need a forever family that can provide the caring and support that they need – and keep up with them! A First Nations family, or a parents who can help the children to maintain an active interest in their cultural identity, would be preferred. Their adoptive family should be prepared for some openness with their foster family and birth family members.
