Ted

Birth date: October 1995
Ethno-Cultural Background: Caucasian

Ted is a keen learner who excels at computers and who loves to read. He has an excellent memory and shows a knack for problem solving. Ted enjoys being active and particularly likes gymnastics, hockey and basketball. He is a thoughtful and kind little boy who can be slow to warm to others, but is a very good friend.

Ted was exposed prenatally to alcohol and drugs and has been diagnosed with Autism and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This means he requires a lot of structure and assistance from caregivers in order to feel comfortable and safe. He has difficulty recognizing common hazards and needs adult supervision. Ted follows clear and short instructions well, and his foster parents report that he has made tremendous gains with his behaviour.

In terms of physical health, Ted has asthma that can be triggered by an allergic reaction to household chemicals, so it is best if his environment is cleaned with natural products. Ted is a good eater and a sound sleeper. He has corrective lens to help with his vision and needs to see his eye doctor to ensure optimal vision.

Ted is very motivated to improve his language skills. Over the past year, there have been significant improvements in his speech development and communication. He attends elementary school on a full-time basis where he has an individualized education plan and access to a teacher’s aid. He is very enthusiastic about learning and is interested in everything the world has to offer.

This sensitive boy needs a family that can provide him with a structured and calm environment where he can receive a lot of attention and support. His new family should be comfortable dealing with community professionals, and help him to maintain contact with his siblings, foster parents and grandparents.
