If you enjoy karaoke, you will have an enthusiastic performer in Trixie! This little girl squeals with delight, claps her hands and dances when her foster father switches on the family karaoke machine. With her enthusiasm and sweet natured ways, Trixie will liven up any day.
Watching cartoons or children’s programs on television and playing computer games are also on Trixie’s list of fun things to do. Currently, her favourite computer activity is watching “Nemo” on U-tube. There is a more active side to Trixie, too. She loves gymnastics, swimming and most activities involving other children. Infants and babies hold a special fascination for her and she will eagerly visit with babies who come into her life.
This endearing and delightful little girl attends middle school. She has a full time one to one worker who assists her with development of fine motor skills and language. Trixie currently functions below her age level in many areas of development and will likely always need some help. Her needs qualify her for autism funding, but she is very social and connected with the people around her. She enjoys the company of other children and is friendly and affectionate to the adults in her life. Her frustrations and tantrums are usually quickly quelled by re-direction. She finds joy in little things. When she has got through her daily routines her favourite reward is to spend time with a bottle filled with water and fascinating sparkles.
Trixie needs an adoptive family that understands her unique needs and has the commitment and patience to help her develop self care skills. Her future family will need to be able to provide structure, consistency and supervision. Trixie will also benefit from continued openness with her current foster family and possibly with her birth family.
For the family willing to share their karaoke machine with Trixie and help her grow, there will be lots of smiles ahead.
