Parent's Responsibilities
It is important for parents receiving Autism Funding: Under Age 6 or Autism Funding: Ages 6-18 to be aware that there are a number of responsibilities associated with these programs.
Parents should carefully read over the parental obligations specified in their Autism Funding Agreement (Under Age 6 or Ages 6-18) or Autism Invoice Payment Agreement and request assistance if needed.
Parent’s responsibilities include:
- Using the funds for eligible autism expenses, and for no other purpose, during the term (start and end dates) identified in the funding or invoice payment agreement.
- If the child is under age six, submitting a copy of the child’s Behavioural Plan of Intervention within 120 days of signing the Autism Funding or Invoice Payment agreement.
- Determining any employer/employee relationships with service providers and related obligations.
- Paying employment related expenses including employee income tax, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and Workers Compensation Board premiums, and 4% vacation pay.
- Providing notification within 30 days of any changes in address, child’s care or custody, or any circumstances that may eliminate or reduce the need for assistance.
- For direct funding, opening a separate bank account into which only the Autism Funds will be deposited and out of which only Autism Expenses will be withdrawn.
- Parents are required to report autism expenses to the Autism Funding Unit on a monthly basis for Autism Funding: Under Age 6 or on a quarterly basis for Autism Funding: Ages 6-18. The report must include a record of expenses (Schedule B of funding agreement), original detailed receipts or invoices with proof of payment, and bank statements.
- Contacting Community Living BC on an annual basis to renew the direct funding agreement. The invoice payment agreement is renewed automatically on the child's birth month.
- Additional responsibilities as noted in the Autism Funding Agreement or Autism Invoice Payment Agreement.
