The Child Care Resource and Referral Program provides support, resources and referral services for child care providers and parents in all communities in the province.

Local non-profit associations are funded by the provincial Ministry of Children and Family Development to deliver Child Care Resource and Referral Program services in locations across B.C., including a province-wide Aboriginal service provided by the British Columbia Aboriginal Child Care Society.

The BC Aboriginal Child Care Society is funded by the Province of British Columbia to support Child Care Resource and Referral programs with culturally focused training and resources for parents and child care providers.

The Child Care Resource and Referral Program also works with community groups to promote quality child care choices that meet the needs of local families.

Services to Parents

The Child Care Resource and Referral Program helps parents find child care and much more. Services for parents include:

  • Referrals to local child care providers and other child care services.
  • Information on the types of child care available in the community, licensed and registered child care providers.
  • Answers to your child care questions:
    • How do I choose child care that meets my family's needs?
    • What do I look for in quality child care?
    • How do I know if the care I've chosen is a good experience for my child?
  • How to apply for a child care subsidy.
  • Access to parent education opportunities such as workshops and printed information.
  • Access to resources and training that support both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children.

Locate the Child Care Resource and Referral Program or search for licensed Child Care facilities in your community.

Services to Child Care Providers

The Child Care Resource and Referral Program provides information, support and training to child care providers with emphasis on family child care. Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Start-up and operating information
  • Workshops and networking opportunities
  • Supportive home visits
  • Access to child care resources such as infant/toddler equipment, toys and library materials
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Listing in a registry of child care providers, which is available to parents
  • Access to information relevant to caring for Aboriginal children and non-Aboriginal children
  • Financial and administrative consultations
  • Registration of licence-not-required (LNR) child care providers
