Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I am very interested in working in a mental health position with your ministry. Can I email you a copy of my resume now? Answer: Vacancies are posted on our website for both Aboriginal recruitment and General recruitment opportunities. They have different application processes. If you are applying for an Aboriginal opportunity follow the “Apply to” information and instructions outlined in the job posting. If you are applying for a General recruitment position, applications are only accepted through our “on-line application” process. For information on the on-line application process, click here. Question: Most of these jobs require candidates to have knowledge of the BC Child and Youth Mental Health Plan, and one of them also requires knowledge of BC legislation and regulations. If I don't currently work in British Columbia, or for your ministry, how would I find this information? Answer: The BC Child and Youth Mental Health Plan is available on our website. Information about BC Mental Health Services, including links to relevant legislation and regulations is also available. Question: These particular Child & Youth Mental Health jobs all require professional degrees and/or registration with a BC Provincial regulatory body. If I am applying from another province or country, how can I show that my education is comparable to British Columbian and Canadian standards? Answer: Many people who come to live and work in Canada bring very high levels of education. However, their educational and professional credentials must be reviewed against Canadian or provincial standards in order to be recognized by academic or professional regulatory bodies. Please review the information provided on the International Credential Evaluation Service for more information on how to get your education credentials assessed and evaluated. For more information about registering with a BC Provincial regulatory body, please review the information provided on the website of the relevant professional organization. (College of Psychologists, Board of Registration for Social Workers in BC, Registered Nurses Association of BC). If you are not sure what professional organization you need to be registered with, please contact us for assistance. Question: If I relocate to a job in British Columbia, are there employment opportunities available for my spouse/partner? Answer: BC has many job opportunities. If you are applying from outside Canada, please review the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website for eligibility http://www.cic.gc.ca/. To review opportunities available with the BC government, please watch the Postings web site. Question: Many of the job postings are not full time positions. Are benefits, such as medical plans, available to part-time staff? Answer: Depending on your employee status, you are eligible for various types of benefits under the Public Service Benefit Plan. Your spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage under some of the benefit plans as soon as you become eligible. Some benefits are earnings related for part-time employees. Please read the information at http://www.bcpublicservice.ca/benefits/
