1. Mental Health Team Leader

Purpose: Functions as the senior clinician providing direction, leadership and supervision to professional staff within the Community Mental Health team, to administer child & youth mental health services. Has authority, accountability and responsibility to plan, develop, manage, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of services for children, youth, families and their communities. Is directly accountable for quality of services, and for monitoring and maintaining professional mental health practice in accordance with established standards and policy. Will work with diverse community partners to establish and maintain a range of mental health services. These positions are open to clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counsellors, or mental health nurses.

2. Associate Clinical Team Leader

Purpose: Under the direction of a Team Leader , the Associate Clinical Team Leader (ACTL) works as a clinical supervisor and member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team. The ACTL will assist the Team Leader by providing clinical, and where appropriate, administrative supervision to clinical staff and/or community components of the multidisciplinary CYMH Team. The kind of expertise provided by the ACTL in clinical supervision will vary depending on the discipline of the ACTL, and may include the supervision of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral training program students. The ACTL may also assist the Team Leader with regards to accountability and responsibility to plan, develop, manage, coordinate and evaluate the delivery of mental health services for children, youth and families in the local community. As the Team Leader has broad responsibilities to work with diverse community partners to promote the establishment and maintenance of a full range of mental health services within the community, the ACTL will be included in facilitating this under the direction of the Team Leader.

3. Mental Health Clinicians

General purpose for all Clinicians: Works as a member of a multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Team, which typically includes clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counsellors, mental health nurses, and consulting psychiatrists. In coordination with community agencies and professionals, provides mental health services, including: direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention; consultation/liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other MCFD programs; community education, development, coordination and prevention/early intervention programs; and program development and evaluation.

4. Mental Health Support Worker

Purpose: Works as a member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team providing supportive counselling and educational services to children, youth, families and their communities. In coordination with CYMH clinical services, community agencies and professionals, provides services such as: outreach; social skills/conflict resolution groups; liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other MCFD programs; community education; development and coordination of prevention/early intervention programs.

Specialist Addendums


1. Early Psychosis Intervention

The Early Psychosis Intervention collaborates with community partners to work with children, youth and their families to enhance early identification and treatment of psychosis. Outreach services are an important component of services.


2. Early Childhood Intervention (Infant Mental Health) Specialist

The Early Childhood Intervention (Infant Mental Health) Specialist works with children from birth to age 6 to screen and assess mental health needs and implement evidence-based mental health interventions for children and families in cooperation with community agencies and professionals.


3. Early Intervention Specialist/Risk Reduction

The Early Intervention Specialist/Risk Reduction develops, implements, and monitors early intervention and risk reduction strategies as part of child and youth mental health program delivery within the community. Provides a range of mental health services to parents and children at risk of developing a mental disorder.


4. Eating Disorders

The Eating Disorders provides specialized eating disorder services to children and youth with eating disorders and provides education and support to their families. Consultation and liaison with community professionals and agencies is an important component.


5. Concurrent Disorders

The Concurrent Disorders Clinician enhances the capability of the child and youth mental health and the youth addiction systems to effectively identify and treat children and youth with concurrent disorders. Consultation and liaison with community professionals and agencies is an important component.


6. Behavioural Disorders

The Behavioural Disorders provides evidence based mental health interventions to children and youth with behavioural disorders and their families. A multi-systems therapeutic approach and integrated case management are important components.


7. Family Therapist

The Family Therapist incorporates a family systems perspective and uses family therapy skills in providing mental health interventions to children, youth and their families.


8. Multi-cultural Specialist

The Multi cultural Specialist works in cooperation with community Multi-cultural groups to provide evidence based and culturally sensitive mental health interventions for children, youth, families and their communities from different ethno-cultural backgrounds


9. Mental Health Consultant to Child Welfare

The Mental Health Consultant to Child Welfare works with child welfare social workers to provide consultation and mental health intervention to child welfare clients who may have a mental illness and/or behavioural problems.
