BC's Strategic Plan

In September 2003, Premier Campbell released Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: A Strategic Plan for British Columbia, the first comprehensive plan of its kind in Canada. It provides direction for investments and has prompted the creation of community-based plans, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders.

BC has invested in community-based initiatives throughout the province since 2003 in the areas of public awareness, early identification and support for women at risk, as well as in assessment, diagnosis, intervention and support for children and youth with FASD and their families.

Regional staff of the Ministry of Children and Family Development are working with their counterparts in Health Authorities and School Districts to plan a coordinated approach to diagnosis, assessment and support in local communities.
