The Ministry has
a statutory mandate to deliver services under the:
Adoption
Act
Provides for new and permanent family ties through adoption, giving
paramount consideration to the best interests of the child.
Child,
Family and Community Service Act
Provides for policies, programs and services for the safety and well-being
of children.
Correction
Act (limited sections only)
Youth Justice programs are intended for the protection and benefit
of young people and for the protection of the public, by assisting
young people to resolve their conflict with the law.
Human
Resource Facility Act
Amendments to the HRFA received Royal Assent June 29th, and came into
force via Order in Council September 3, 1999. The amended HRFA enables
the Minister to provide capital assistance for the following to a
broader range of service providers, including nonprofit and private
agencies, and individuals:
(a) a residence
or facility for the care of children;
(b) a special home for the care of persons with disabilities;
(c) an activity centre or workshop for persons with disabilities;
(d) a residence or facility for the support or treatment of persons
with addictions;
(e) a special human resource facility or program designated by the
Lieutenant Governor in Council, including facilities for child or
youth mental health services, and youth justice services.
Social
Workers Act
Provides for a
Board of Registration for Social Workers that examines, qualifies
and registers all Registered Social Workers in British Columbia.
