Other Funding Programs Funds For Youth In Care Ken Dryden Scholarship and Achievement Awards – For youth currently or formerly in care who are under 30. The scholarship will cover 80 per cent of the cost of tuition to a maximum of $3,000. Public Guardian and Trustee Educational Assistance Fund – For former youth in care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Bursaries are up to $3,300. British Columbia Federation of Foster Parent Association – The BCFFPA administer several bursaries. One is the William Curtis Memorial Fund is for former youth in care over 19 completing high school or higher. There is also the Merv Davis Bursary for youth in care nearing 19 years of age. Dr. Wade Endowment Fund - 604 877-7647 Funds for Students Industry Training Authority – secondary school apprentices can qualify for a $1,000 scholarship if they:
District Scholarships - The District Scholarship Program rewards grade 12 graduating students who excel in Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music) or Applied Skills (Business Education, Technology Education, Information Communication Technology, and Home Economics) or Physical Activity (not limited to Physical Education). A District Scholarship consists of a $500 cheque and a $500 scholarship voucher. BC School Trustees Association (BCSTA) Scholarship for Student Citizenship - This scholarship is awarded annually to students graduating from the BC public education system. The amount is $250. Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation – They give away several annual awards starting at a value of $2,500. The awards go to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and strong leadership skills. Leonardo Da Vinci Competition - National annual engineering-oriented competition for senior high school students in Canadian secondary schools or first year Cegep. Cash and scholarship prizes. BC Innovation Council - Administers funding programs for applied research and development, scholarships and fellowships. Funds for First Nations Youth First Nations youth who are registered Indians should check with their local band Education Office for resources available to them. Heroes of Our Time Scholarships are for First Nations citizens who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education in the specified fields below. Deadline for all these awards is June 1 each year. Each is $2000.
Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth (FAAY) Corporate sponsors who support FAAY will award over $200,000 in scholarships and bursaries to Aboriginals (Status, Non-Status, Métis and Inuit). To qualify for a bursary, students must be between the ages of 13 to 18 and be enrolled Grade 9 and up in high school. Students may re-apply each year. To qualify for a scholarship, students must be enrolled in a Canadian university, college or technical institute. There is no age restriction for post-secondary students. Scholarships and bursaries are awarded on a national basis and are based on specific criteria, including contributions to the community, academic performance, career goals plus leadership and role model qualities. Canada Post's Aboriginal Education Incentive Awards Offered for the first time in 2004, Canada Post's Aboriginal Education Incentive Award celebrates the motivation and determination of those who have courageously conquered personal, economic or social adversity in the pursuit of learning. Each of Canada's Post's eight regions across the country will grant three awards annually: two $1,000 scholarships for the return to and successful completion of one full year of high school and one $1,000 scholarship for the return to and successful completion of one full year of post-secondary education, including vocational or trade skills training. National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF) is a nationally registered charity with a mandate to actively assist talented Aboriginal artists and cultural workers. NAAF has established a fund to provide financial assistance for education and training initiatives in the performing, visual, crafted, media, literary and graphic arts. NAAF delivers its mandate through the operation of four programs: Fine Arts; Business, Science & General Education; Aboriginal Health Careers; & Cultural Projects.
