Leadership
Les Boon
Regional Executive Director
Fraser Region
Les Boon was appointed Regional Executive Director for the Fraser Region in 2004. Immediately prior to that, he served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Fraser Region. Between 1997 and 2002 Boon was the Regional Executive Director for the Upper Fraser region.
Boon began working in corrections in 1974, as a youth probation officer. During his professional career, he served in both community and institutional corrections, and has been a line worker, supervisor and manager.
In 1976, Boon became a senior probation officer at the new provincial Youth Custody Centre in Vancouver. He was part of the team that designed a custody system to limit the number of incarcerated youth and reduce the negative effects of custody through education and recreational programming. This approach helped BC to maintain one of the lowest incarceration rates for youth in Canada during a 20-year period.
Boon returned to community corrections in 1981, as Local Director of the Abbotsford Probation Office. Two years later, he was Analyst for the Fraser Region, Corrections Branch.
In 1989, he became Director to Stave Lake Camp. He built the treatment component of this open facility for sex offenders by improving links with the Forensic Services Commission, and increasing connections with the community through a victim/offender reconciliation program.
Between 1991 and 1996, Boon undertook a series of secondments. Among them, he acted as District Director of the Chilliwack Forest Camp. He holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of British Columbia on Adolescent Development.
