Youth Outreach Workers
Youth outreach/support workers go to where street youth gather. Outreach workers can help youth establish safer lifestyles and encourage those children and youth who are new to the street to reconnect with their families and communities. Workers address immediate needs, and provide linkages to community services and resources, and social workers if needed. Some outreach workers across BC may be involved with an informal network called Reconnect, which support the coordination in working with youth across communities.
For street youth under the age of 19, outreach workers can help with:
- basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter
- getting transportation needs met
- short term crisis support
- reconnecting with family, school, culture or community
If you are a youth who needs help or know of someone who needs help, approach an outreach worker or other adult you trust, or call 310-1234 to speak to someone who can help.
Many outreach workers are funded by MCFD through various community agencies around the province. For a list of agencies who may provide youth outreach click here.
